The warm months of summer bring out the small insects called ticks. There are many varieties and it is difficult to keep up with the variety that can cause problems. There are several measures that should be taken to avoid a tick bite.

They are as follows:  Avoid wooded and bushy areas as well as high grass areas.
If you hike on a trail, stay in the middle of the trail.

Use insect repellent of at least 20% DEET before going into potential exposure areas.

After an outing, shower as soon as possible and perform a full assessment of skin surfaces.

Inspect pets and spray gear. Dry clothes in the dryer on high heat for at least an hour.
